Poggio Anima, translates to 'Hill of Soul,' personifying the individual vineyards cultivated for each bottle. Poggio Anima is a joint venture between one of Tuscany's rising stars, Riccardo Campinoti of Le Ragnaie in Montalcino and his U.S.A. importer Ronnie Sanders of Vine Street Imports. The idea is straightforward: to source great vineyards from existing relationships and produce a real wine that conveys a place and a grape. These wines are not bulk wines, nor leftover juice from a winery, but long term contracts that have signed with reputable growers. This is classic, vibrant single-vineyard Sangiovese. Cherry notes dominate with a touch of sweet balsamic and a lovely note of espresso. While the red wine labels show ancient pagan fallen angels, the wines inside are nothing short of heavenly! Each wine was specifically named for the persona of the grape, region or style of the wine. Each wine hails from one variety, a single-vineyard and representing its place of origin. But why the ancient pagan labels? Italy has a wine tradition of searching for the balance between old world style & practices and modern winemaking technologies. Poggio Anima’s wines are the success of this balance in a bottle. The theme of ‘a search for balance’ can be seen in all living things, in our communities, in our lives, and in the vinyards where grapes strive for balance to grow and thrive. We can find some balance of our own by enjoying a glass of Poggio Anima Sangiovese!
