A delicious, higher-end vinho verde for those who would like to try something a step up from the under 10 examples from this emerging category. 70% Alvarhinho, 30% Trajadura, and just plain delicious, with snappy green fruits, citrus, and just a hint of dissolved CO2 providing a refreshing, subtle effervescence. From The Wines & Vineyards of Portugal: "The Monçao cooperative is the single largest producer of Alvarinho, accounting for more than half the production of the Monçao sub-region. It has grown from the original 25 growers who founded it in 1958, to over 1,700, farming over 1,000 hectares, in 2006. In common with most cooperatives, grapes are selected by their sugar reading rather than terroir. It is a testament to the success of the Monçao Co-op that 'Muralhas' is one of the most reliable and best known Vinho Verdes in the thousands of fish restaurants that line the coast of Portugal from Lisbon to the Minho."
